UH students help athletes follow their dreams around the world

HOUSTON, Texas — In case you’ve ever considered attempting a brand new sport, you sometimes want new sneakers or gear like a racket.

However not all athletes have that choice. Sport wheelchairs are customized for every sport and could be extremely costly, with prices beginning at $2,000.

The College of Houston Adaptive Athletics class desires to help athletes get chairs for no value. When in-person wheelchair tennis and rugby actions have been paused final spring resulting from the pandemic, the class shifted focus to rebuilding sport wheelchairs for athletes in Bangladesh.

Athletes there are extremely proficient however lack the gear to compete.

The UH class collected 40 donated sports activities wheelchairs from sports activities applications around the nation hoping to upcycle their outdated gear. The category has spent a number of weeks being refurbished, and can finally be shipped to Dhaka.

The category wants $18,000 to ship the chairs throughout the world. You’ll be able to donate right here.
