Oakland pot dispensaries asking for help from OPD with roving thieves to prevent ‘downfall’ of businesses

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — Nobody has extra of a stake in ensuring Oakland’s Hashish dispensaries are protected than Tucky Blunt, who owns Blunts and Moore in East Oakland, the identical retailer pillaged by a roving band of burglars over the weekend.

Three days later, Blunt was amongst these on a zoom name with Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong looking out for options.

“Someone’s going to die on one of those sites and that’s going to be the downfall of this business and we can’t have that,” stated Blunt. “All I’m asking is if you know, this type of stuff is going on, send an extra cop around my area. Park one at my store. Just do things that we can do to work together.”

Hashish dispensaries are amongst dozens of businesses hit by roving bands of thieves and in some circumstances, the suspect exchanged gunfire with each personal safety and with law enforcement officials.

“I just want to be clear. I don’t want to see security companies engaged in gunfire with individuals,” stated Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong at a press convention Monday. “I don’t want to see these gun battles that are occurring as a result of these armed suspects coming to these locations.”

Some hashish businesses aren’t ready for help from the town or OPD and are taking issues into their very own palms. Some boarded up their doorways and home windows and are filtering clients by way of a single door with a safety guard on responsibility.

OPD is reportedly planning to provide the town’s hashish business extra help, heading into this coming weekend.

“What we’re talking about is having more officers on-hand to respond to things that might peak up this weekend,” stated Oakland Metropolis Councilman Loren Taylor, who attended the digital assembly. “So yes we are able to beef up the numbers of boots on the ground, through pulling folks in on overtime and through other surge units being activated.”

Nonetheless, will Oakland’s already understaffed and overwhelmed power actually have the option to provide its hashish businesses sufficient extra help to head off the brazen crimes?

Dispensary house owners like Tucky Blunt are keen to give it a attempt.

“We have been kind of left for dead,” stated Blunt, “but I think they understand more now where we’re coming from like, we’re not going through this no more.”
