The ‘Righteous’ of Rwanda: meeting the heroes of the genocide

Among these heroes of the genocide in Rwanda, Froduald Karuhije, agricultural worker from the village of Shyogwe. To hide nearly 20 Tutsi, he dug deep holes in the fields, which he covered with branches and earth.

There is also Damas Gisimba, who sheltered Tutsi fugitives in Kigali, in false ceilings and rooms hidden behind cupboards, in the orphanage he ran.

As for Joséphine Dusabimana, a bar owner in the town of Kibuye, on Lake Kivu, she stole boats to send Tutsi to an island on the other side of the border at night.
